FedEx Worker Trades Job for a Side Hustle in Diamonds, Gold, and Ty Cobb Cards

Apparently, someone at FedEx thought the job perk included "finders keepers." A Memphis-based employee is accused of helping himself to a treasure trove of packages, including an $8,500 diamond ring, nearly $14,000 in gold bars, and some vintage baseball cards that any collector would drool over.

The alleged bandit, Antwone Tate, was still on the FedEx payroll when Loss Prevention at the Memphis Hub flagged some suspicious package disappearances on May 27. One investigation later, officials followed the sparkle trail straight to a pawn shop, where the ring and gold bars had magically reappeared—courtesy of Tate, who apparently didn’t think using his own driver’s license was going to be an issue. Spoiler: it was.

But wait, there's more. A third package—this one full of baseball nostalgia—also went MIA. Among the cardboard casualties? A 1915 Cracker Jack Chief Bender and a 1933 Goudey Sport Kings Ty Cobb, both pretty high up on the collector’s wish list. Total value: about $6,800. Naturally, police found the cards on eBay under the seller name antta_57, which might as well have been iamguilty_100 because, yep, that account traced right back to Tate.

He’s now charged with theft of property for the triple heist. FedEx, for their part, has given him the corporate equivalent of “boy, bye,” releasing a statement confirming he’s no longer with the company and reminding everyone that stealing is, in fact, not part of the job description.

So next time your tracking info says “out for delivery” and your package disappears into the void, maybe check eBay. Just don’t bid on anything listed by antta_58.
