In a recent Mile High Card Company auction, a highly coveted set of 1968 Topps baseball cards shattered records, fetching a total of $1.1 million. Originally sold for just five cents per pack in 1968, this collection featured almost every card graded PSA 10, denoting their near-perfect condition.
The star of the set, a PSA 10 Mickey Mantle card (#280), commanded the highest price at $235,234. However, enthusiasm was high across the board, with cards of both legendary and lesser-known players achieving impressive sums. Notable sales included a Hank Aaron card at $157,381 and a Johnny Bench rookie card at $64,028. Cards of Roberto Clemente, Willie Mays, and other baseball icons also drew significant interest, with many setting new record prices for their respective categories.

A 1997 Metal Universe Precious Metal Gems card featuring Michael Jordan, numbered 067 out of 100 and graded PSA 5, soared to $303,842. Other noteworthy items included a Jim Brown 1964 Philadelphia Gum card, which sold for $117,585, and a Wilt Chamberlain card from 1961, which fetched $77,829.
The auction also featured historical memorabilia such as a 1910s American League “All-Star” team photograph and various Topps baseball sets from the 1960s and 1970s, all fetching high prices and underscoring the robust interest in sports collectibles.
