Ever fallen down the rabbit hole of novelty Magic: The Gathering accessories, only to justify a new purchase by designing a whole deck around it? That’s exactly how this Scooby-Doo Commander deck came to life.
While browsing Etsy, I stumbled across a deck box shaped like the Mystery Machine — complete with groovy paint and retro lettering. It was too good to pass up. The only catch? I now needed to build a deck that felt like Scooby and the gang themselves — part comedy, part chaos, and all mystery.
The first puzzle was figuring out which Magic mechanic could capture the spirit of four meddling kids (and a dog) solving spooky mysteries. The clear answer was Investigate — a keyword that creates Clue tokens whenever your characters "look into" something strange.
Each Clue token is an artifact you can sacrifice for two mana to draw a card. Mechanically, it feels exactly like solving a case: follow the leads, collect the clues, and cash in your discoveries for answers.
This loop — take an action, earn a clue, reveal the truth — perfectly matches the Scooby-Doo rhythm.
Our fearless commander is Morska, Undersea Sleuth from Murders at Karlov Manor. She’s clever, curious, and thrives on clues — exactly the traits you’d expect from someone traveling around in a van with "The Mystery Machine" on the side.
Morska’s Bant color identity (green, white, and blue) gives the deck its balance of teamwork and logic.
Green provides mana ramp and growth.
Blue brings the investigation tools — card draw, control, and insight.
White keeps the board clean with efficient answers like Swords to Plowshares.

The more you investigate, the more artifacts pile up on your board, and that opens up an artifacts-matter subtheme. You can pivot between strategies — maybe you win through Commander damage with Morska’s massive growth, or perhaps you let your growing army of tokens overrun the table. Either way, you’re uncovering the culprit one clue at a time.
In the early turns, you’re setting up your gear. Ramping with spells like Cultivate ensures you can get Morska into play quickly. Once she’s on the board, the real investigation begins.
The deck shines in the midgame. Since Morska’s ability triggers every time you draw your second card each turn — not just your own — you can sacrifice Clues during your opponents’ end steps. This lets you stay reactive, growing your commander while keeping mana open for tricks and counterspells.
That play pattern — patiently investigating, staying cautious, striking when the time is right — feels very much like the Scooby Gang creeping through a haunted mansion before unmasking the villain.
