The baseball card community is abuzz as one of the six autographed 1/1 Superfractors from the "2024 Topps 50/50: Shohei Ohtani" collection has been pulled. The product, created to honor Ohtani's unprecedented 50/50 season—50 home runs and 50 stolen bases—has been a major hit among collectors since its release.
Earlier this year, Topps unveiled the exclusive set to commemorate Ohtani's historic achievement, making it the first of its kind in MLB history. The product, now sold out, was originally available on the Topps website for $25 per pack or $239.99 for a 10-pack box. Each box contained 5 cards per pack across 10 packs, with an average of one Chrome Parallel or Short Print per box. The real prizes, however, include autographs, relics, auto-relics, and the coveted Black Dynasty 1/1 auto-relics.
One of the six autographed Superfractors was pulled by a collector known as Omar, aka @eastcoastflipper on Instagram. The card, commemorating Ohtani’s three-stolen-base game on August 3rd, immediately went viral. Omar captured his ecstatic reaction on video, which has garnered 104,000 views on his Instagram page and an additional 575,000 views after Topps reposted it on their official social media.
“This is the biggest card I’ve ever pulled and one of the greatest moments of my life,” Omar shared.
A lifelong collector, Omar rekindled his passion for sports cards during the pandemic in 2020. His love for the hobby has since evolved into a full-time business, focusing on grading and reselling cards for profit. Though he hasn’t officially announced what he plans to do with the card, Goldin Auctions, a leading platform for high-end collectibles, has begun following his account, fueling speculation about its potential future at auction.
With Ohtani's unmatched career continuing to break records, the value and significance of this pull could skyrocket. Collectors and fans alike will be watching closely to see what happens next with this extraordinary card.
