The chase for gold is over—Liquid Gold, that is. Popular breaker Blez Sports has pulled the highly coveted 2024 Diamond Icons 1/1 Liquid Gold Shohei Ohtani, an ultra-rare card that is expected to fetch four figures or more if it hits the open market. Given Ohtani’s global popularity and the growing buzz around this new Liquid Gold parallel, this card is already one of the most talked-about pulls of the year.

Topps Introduces ‘Liquid Gold’—A New Era in Card Production

Liquid Gold is the latest breakthrough in premium card technology, making its debut in 2024 Topps Diamond Icons. With an unprecedented level of shine, these cards have a refractive quality that sets them apart from traditional parallels.

Collectors first took notice when a 1/1 Paul Skenes Liquid Gold was pulled last month in Nashville. Wade Rodgers, VP of Nash Cards, described the pull:

“It shines different than a regular refractor. We could tell immediately how unique it was.”

Now, with Ohtani’s 1/1 Liquid Gold surfacing, excitement for these cards has reached another level.

Topps Expands Its ‘Liquid’ Parallels, Creating Market Buzz

Topps has gone all-in on promoting its new ‘Liquid’ lineup, using teaser campaigns across social media, product previews, and YouTube marketing. The company’s investment in this innovation has paid off, as Liquid Silver and Liquid Gold parallels are already commanding top dollar on the secondary market.

Even non-numbered Liquid Silver cards are proving to be valuable. A Shohei Ohtani Liquid Silver card sold for $3,599 on February 25, while a Paul Skenes Liquid Silver went for $4,751 on February 22. A simple eBay search for ‘2024 Topps Diamond Icons Liquid’ under sold listings reveals only five sales, including Ohtani, Jackson Chourio, Paul Skenes, and Aaron Judge, with none selling for less than $2,000.

Market Demand for Liquid Gold Parallels Continues to Climb

With only a handful of Liquid Gold 1/1s in circulation, the demand for these cards is off the charts. Currently, the few Liquid Gold cards listed on eBay have starting prices of at least $1,000.

  • An Aaron Judge Liquid Gold 1/1 is currently listed at $10,000, with four days left in the auction.
  • No bidders have entered the fray yet, but given the rarity of these cards, it’s likely that high-end collectors will eventually battle for them.
  • If the auction doesn’t pan out, sellers may turn to elite auction houses to target deep-pocketed card investors.

A New Standard for Premium Collectibles

With Shohei Ohtani’s 1/1 Liquid Gold now in the wild, and the growing popularity of Liquid Silver and Liquid Gold parallels, Topps may have just set a new standard for ultra-premium modern trading cards.

Collectors and investors alike will be watching closely to see how much the Ohtani Liquid Gold 1/1 sells for, and if this marks the beginning of a new golden age in hobby innovation.
