In a stunning showcase of vintage sports cards and memorabilia, Robert Edward Auctions (REA) set new records in its recent February sale, headlined by a PSA 5 graded M116 Sporting Life Honus Wagner card, which fetched $75,000. This sale not only surpassed previous benchmarks for the blue background version of the card but also underscored the enduring allure of historic sports collectibles.

Additionally, the auction spotlighted another gem from the M116 Sporting Life series, a Ty Cobb Blue Background graded at PSA GOOD 2, achieving a record $15,000 for its grade. The event was a magnet for registry builders and collectors seeking high-grade single vintage cards, with ten Mint 9 cards from the 196 Topps set each selling for over $5,000. Notably, a #2 Roman Mejias PSA MINT 9 card reached $19,200, marking the highest sale price for a non-Hall of Famer from this set in its grade.

The auction, featuring 2,732 items, successfully generated more than $1.2 million in sales, showcasing a broad interest in both iconic and lesser-known collectible items. Other significant sales included a 1909-1911 T206 White Border Ty Cobb Portrait with a Red Background and Tolstoi Back for $21,000, and a 1934 R320 Goudey #37 Lou Gehrig card graded PSA EX-MT 6 for $18,000, among others.

Brian Dwyer, President of REA, highlighted the auction's broad appeal, noting the strong engagement across a range of collectibles, a positive indicator for the hobby's future. With excitement building for REA's upcoming March Encore event and Spring Catalog Auction, collectors have much to anticipate in the weeks ahead.

The results from this auction not only celebrate the rich history and value of sports memorabilia but also signal a vibrant market for collectors and enthusiasts. With catalogs for the Spring Auction available at no charge, REA continues to be a pivotal platform for the sports collectibles community.
