The sports memorabilia market witnessed significant activity this past weekend at Goldin Auctions' April Elite sale, with items from basketball players Anthony Edwards and Victor Wembanyama achieving record-breaking sales. The timing was impeccable for Anthony Edwards, who dazzled fans with a stellar performance in the NBA playoffs, enhancing the value of his memorabilia.

A jersey worn by Anthony Edwards in the fourth game of his NBA career sold for $118,978, setting a new record for the public sale of any Edwards jersey. Authenticated by MeiGray/NBA and photomatched, the jersey bore historical significance as it was worn during a game where Edwards scored 12 points and made his first career block. Edwards’ standout 2024 playoff performances, which included scoring over 40 points in consecutive games, have rapidly boosted his profile among collectors.

In addition to his jersey, a 2020-21 Panini National Treasures Rookie Patch Autograph card of Edwards, graded BGS GEM MINT 9.5/Beckett 10, also attracted attention, fetching $85,550.

Victor Wembanyama, another emerging star, had notable sales with two of his rookie cards. A 2023-24 Panini Prizm Green Shimmer First Off The Line rookie card, one of only five and graded PSA 10, sold for $113,460. Another card, a Gold Shimmer rookie numbered 7/10, ended at $49,410.

Other highlights from the auction included a 1996-97 Kobe Bryant Topps Chrome Refractor rookie card, which garnered $92,720, and a 2018 Panini Prizm World Cup Gold Power Prizm Kylian Mbappe rookie card, which fetched $92,190.

Memorabilia from former Duke basketball star Cherokee Parks also found new owners, with his 1994 NCAA Championship ring selling for $44,320 among other items.

Additionally, early career photos of basketball legends Michael Jordan and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar sold for $15,982 and $14,640, respectively, reflecting the enduring appeal of iconic sports figures in the collectibles market.

The auction also saw the sale of a jersey from Fernando Tatis's debut season, including his first career road game, which went for $10,098, underscoring the wide interest in memorabilia across different sports and eras.
