PSA is officially entering the comic and magazine grading space, and collectors now have details on what to expect when submissions open on July 14.
The grading company announced Wednesday that it will begin accepting comic book and magazine submissions with pricing starting at $25.99 per item under its Modern (1975 and newer) tier, which comes with an estimated 20-business-day turnaround time.
In addition to grading, PSA will offer pressing services starting at $11.99 per item. Adding pressing to a submission will extend the turnaround time—roughly doubling it for lower-tier service levels.
Long known as the leader in sports and trading card grading, PSA is expanding into a category that has been largely dominated by CGC for nearly two decades. All of the ten highest-selling comic books of all time have been encapsulated by CGC holders, underscoring the uphill climb PSA faces—but also the size of the opportunity.
PSA’s initial pricing appears competitive, if not slightly under CGC’s in some tiers, hinting at a strategy designed to immediately gain traction with collectors and dealers.
The company’s first public hint at its expansion into comic books came last year during San Diego Comic-Con, when PSA partnered with fashion brand Kith and Marvel to debut its prototype comic holders. That collaboration included the limited-edition “Marvel Super Villains” sneaker and comic pack, featuring PSA-graded variants of iconic characters.
One standout from that collection—a 1/1 Venom-Spider-Man sketch variant—sold on eBay in January for $30,000, generating early buzz around PSA’s new slab design.
With the July 14 launch date approaching, PSA is positioning itself as a serious new contender in comic and magazine grading, offering competitive pricing and turnaround times aimed squarely at shaking up a category that’s been quiet for years.
