Newly imposed tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, China, and Hong Kong have forced PSA to temporarily halt direct card submissions from these countries. The 25% tariff, which went into effect on March 4, would result in substantial additional costs for the grading company, leading to the decision to suspend submissions until further notice.

Impact of Tariffs on the Grading Industry

According to a post on X (@nesterp99), the 25% tariff would require PSA to absorb the cost of international submissions. For example, a $1,000 card submission would cost PSA an additional $250 in import fees, making continued operations under the new policy unsustainable.

Options for Canadian Customers

While direct submissions from Canada have been halted, Canadian collectors still have options for grading through PSA.

  • PSA's official drop-off center in Halifax, Nova Scotia is still operational.
  • Customers can also submit cards through PSA Authorized Dealers in Canada.

This ensures that Canadian collectors still have a way to get their cards graded despite the tariff-related suspension.

Uncertainty for Mexico and China Submissions

PSA stated in a press release that they are actively working on a solution for customers in China, but no alternative has been announced for collectors in Mexico. Until further notice, customers in these regions may need to explore third-party submission services or wait for an official resolution.

PSA’s Response to the Situation

In their statement, PSA acknowledged the inconvenience caused by these restrictions and assured customers that they are working toward a solution:

"We do apologize to our customers in these countries for this inconvenience, and we appreciate your understanding and patience. We will provide further updates as they become available, as we strive to keep PSA authentication and grading services accessible to all collectors worldwide."

What’s Next for International Collectors?

As PSA navigates the impact of these new tariffs, collectors in Canada, Mexico, and China will need to stay updated on submission changes. The grading industry is already facing delays due to growing demand, and this latest development could create further challenges for international collectors seeking PSA authentication.

With no set timeline for a resolution, collectors in affected regions will need to monitor PSA’s announcements for any policy updates regarding international submissions.
