New Insurance Program Launched for Sports Memorabilia Collectors in Canada

Canadian sports card and memorabilia collectors now have access to a specialized insurance program, thanks to a new initiative by NFP, a prominent property and casualty broker. This program, created in collaboration with Berkley Asset Protection, aims to offer comprehensive coverage for high-value sports cards and memorabilia, items that are often not sufficiently covered under standard homeowners insurance policies.

Greg Dunn, Managing Director of Personal Risk at NFP in Canada, emphasized the importance of this coverage for collectors who make significant acquisitions, noting that the new insurance solution will address potential coverage gaps and provide peace of mind from the moment of purchase. The program includes automatic coverage for new acquisitions and transit coverage, ensuring detailed protection for both newly acquired and existing collectibles.

Olivia Cinqmars-Viau, AVP of fine art underwriting at Berkley Asset Protection, highlighted the customized nature of this insurance solution, designed to meet the specific needs of collectors. This initiative acknowledges the growing class of sports memorabilia collectors, ensuring they have necessary protections for their valuable assets.

Steve Menzie, president and owner of the Sport Card & Memorabilia Expo, Canada's largest sports collectibles show, also expressed support for the new program. He pointed out that while collectors often view their items as sentimentally valuable, the financial aspect cannot be overlooked. This partnership between NFP and Berkley is set to help collectors secure their investments more effectively.

NFP's Personal Risk team will be available at the upcoming Sport Card & Memorabilia Expo in Toronto from April 25-28 to introduce and explain the benefits of this new insurance offering. This initiative is part of NFP's broader commitment to addressing the unique needs of collectors, with the firm employing over 1,000 staff in Canada and more than 8,000 globally.
