One of the most coveted pieces of Yankees memorabilia is about to hit the auction stage. Heritage Auctions has announced the upcoming sale of a 1960 Mickey Mantle game-worn Yankees jersey, photo-matched to his appearance in the first 1960 MLB All-Star Game and carrying a pre-sale estimate of $4 million.

The classic home pinstripe jersey, signed by Mantle and inscribed with his legendary “No. 7,” has been authenticated through photo-matching to 13 separate images, including several from the 1960 All-Star Game. Leading authentication companies MeiGray and Sports Investors have tied the jersey to at least four Major League games from 1960 and an exhibition contest in 1961. The documentation also includes images from two additional, undated Yankees games and several photos with Mantle’s iconic teammate, Roger Maris, as well as shots believed to be from 1961 spring training.

What makes this Mantle gamer even more special is its untouched condition—a rarity for jerseys from the era, as many were altered or recycled over multiple seasons. According to Heritage, the consignor acquired the piece in the 1990s directly from the estate of one of Mantle’s former teammates, making this a true “fresh-to-the-hobby” find.

If bidding meets expectations, the jersey could become one of the most valuable Mantle items ever sold. It would approach the $4.68 million realized for a 1958 Mantle jersey last year and the $3 million paid for a World Series-worn example earlier in 2024, both record sales at Heritage.

Game-used Yankees jerseys from Mantle’s career are among the most sought-after treasures in sports memorabilia. For collectors and baseball fans, this auction represents a rare chance to own a tangible piece of Mantle’s Hall of Fame legacy.
