A collection of six jerseys worn by Lionel Messi during Argentina's victorious 2022 World Cup campaign is anticipated to reach an eight-figure sum at an upcoming Sotheby’s auction. These jerseys, which Messi sported in key matches including the Final, Semi-final, Quarter-final, Round of 16, and two Group Stage games, are set to be auctioned from November 30 to December 14 and are expected to fetch upwards of $10 million.

This auction could potentially set a new record for game-worn soccer memorabilia, surpassing the $9.3 million fetched by Diego Maradona’s ‘Hand of God’ shirt at Sotheby’s London last year. The overall record for any piece of sports memorabilia currently stands at $12.6 million for a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card, with Michael Jordan’s 1998 NBA Finals jersey holding the record for a game-worn item at $10.1 million.

AC Momento, a US tech startup that collaborates with elite athletes to oversee their match-worn memorabilia, is facilitating the sale. The company's founder, John Brennan, expressed his excitement about the auction, highlighting the significance of these jerseys in football history and their connection to Messi's legacy.

Additionally, a portion of the sale's proceeds will be contributed to the UNICAS Project, a venture by the Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Children’s Hospital, supported by the Leo Messi Foundation, aiming to aid children with rare diseases.

The jerseys will be displayed at Sotheby’s New York offices during the auction period, offering fans a glimpse of the memorabilia tied to one of football's most illustrious moments.
