Lelands Winter Classic Auction Highlights: Clemente and Williams Memorabilia Lead the Way

The Lelands 2024 Winter Classic Auction concluded with remarkable sales, including a 1960 game-worn Roberto Clemente jersey fetching $256,714. This vest-style road flannel, worn during a standout year for Clemente, achieved an excellent grade from SGC, indicating its high quality and preservation.

Not to be overshadowed, a Ted Williams jersey from his exceptional 1942 season garnered $191,563. This unique piece, which was a gift to a devoted Fenway Park fan and altered for a better fit, is the only known jersey from Williams' 1942 campaign, marking a significant find for collectors. Additionally, a Williams warm-up jacket from the 1940s sold for $40,920, adding to the auction's allure.

A baseball autographed by Babe Ruth and Honus Wagner, a treasured family heirloom, attracted bids up to $102,694. This pristine piece also featured signatures from Al Simmons and George Earnshaw. A 1920s Ruth-Lou Gehrig signed photo and a 1949 Jackie Robinson card with a PSA grade of 9 autograph fetched $131,066 and $85,772, respectively.

A standout among the auction's offerings was a 1997-98 Metal Universe Championship Precious Metal Gems Michael Jordan card. Graded 8 by PSA, this rare item sparked a fierce bidding war, ultimately selling for $232,847, marking a significant event in the auction market for PMG Championship cards.

The auction also highlighted unopened sports memorabilia, including a 1961 Fleer Baseball Greats box and a 1974 O-Pee-Chee Baseball box, among others, alongside a 1991 Kentucky Derby owner's trophy, which sold for $165,479.

Game-worn items featured prominently, with a Sidney Crosby rookie season jersey and memorabilia from Lynn Swann, Brian Leetch, and Jerry Lucas attracting considerable interest and high bids.
