The final NFL jersey donned by Tom Brady fetched a record-breaking $1,391,000 at a Sotheby’s auction, surpassing all previous sales for an NFL game-worn jersey. Brady wore the jersey during the last half of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ playoff defeat against the Dallas Cowboys on January 16, 2022. While the sale price didn't meet the pre-auction estimates of $1.5 million to $2.5 million, it did exceed the previous $1.2 million record held by a Joe Montana Super Bowl jersey.
Hosted amidst the buzz of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, the auction also featured cars and racing collectibles. Brady, who retired after 23 seasons on February 1, threw for 351 yards in his final NFL appearance, the highest yardage by any player in their final playoff game. The size 44 Nike jersey, complete with team emblem, captain’s patch, and signs of game play such as grass stains, also bears Brady’s signature and the notations "My Last Game" and "GOAT Out!"
Earlier this fall, Brady's 700th career touchdown pass jersey was auctioned for charity at $1.2 million. The provenance of the jersey sold at Sotheby's remains private, with the auction house confirming it had been sold privately before the auction but the details of its journey from Brady to the auction block remain undisclosed.
