A significant theft at Underdog Collectibles in Knoxville has led to the arrest of Cody Denning, a local man charged with burglary, theft of property, and vandalism. According to the Knoxville Police Department (KPD), Denning was caught on surveillance footage breaking into the store and making off with 17 autographed jerseys, valued at almost $22,000.

The incident occurred on May 18, when Denning first surveyed the store at around 8:50 p.m. He was seen examining the jerseys, removing them from the shelves to inspect before replacing them, and indicating to his wife his intention to return for them. Hours later, Denning executed his plan by throwing a rock through the store's front window and entering the premises twice in the early hours—once at 2:15 a.m. and again shortly after 3 a.m. During these times, he stole jerseys from the store on both occasions.

Further complicating his spree, Denning later attempted to sell two of the stolen jerseys at Pro Image Sports located in West Town Mall. Additionally, the police found multiple hats in the back of Denning's car, items also reported missing from the store and visible in the surveillance video.

Underdog Collectibles responded to the burglary by posting on social media, asking for the public’s help in tracking down the stolen items. The store confirmed that while the physical damage to the premises was minimal, the loss of the jerseys was substantial. They provided details on social media about the stolen items and offered to verify serial numbers to facilitate the recovery of the jerseys.

Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident. The store has reiterated its request for any information regarding the whereabouts of the missing jerseys, emphasizing the community’s role in aiding the ongoing investigation and preventing further losses.
