Heritage Auctions has placed a significant piece of sports history on the auction block—a ticket stub from the April 18, 1947, game at Ebbets Field where Jackie Robinson hit his first major league home run. This event marked Robinson as the first African-American to homer in the major leagues, a major milestone that came only five days after he famously broke baseball's color barrier.

This stub is one of only two known surviving tickets from the game between the Giants and the Dodgers. Authenticated by PSA as Authentic, the stub represents a rare collectible from a day where attendance figures were over 37,000, but few tickets have survived.

The home run itself was a highlight during a game which the Dodgers lost 10-4 to the Giants. The game was also notable for managerial changes on the Dodgers' side, with Burt Shotton stepping in for Leo Durocher following Durocher’s suspension due to various controversies, including alleged associations with gamblers.

On this historic day, Robinson, batting second and playing first base, hit a solo home run off Giants pitcher Dave Koslo in the third inning. An iconic photograph from that day captures Robinson being congratulated by teammate Tommy Tatum, with catcher Clint Courtney also in the scene.

Interestingly, the home run occurred exactly one year after Robinson, playing for the minor league Montreal Royals, hit his first professional home run—a moment captured in a photograph that became iconic in its own right for depicting racial unity through the handshake between Robinson and his white teammate George Shuba. This photograph remained in Shuba's home until his death and was commemorated with a sculpture in Youngstown, OH, in 2021.

The auction for this rare and historically significant ticket stub is set to conclude on May 17, offering collectors and history enthusiasts a chance to own a tangible piece of baseball history.
