At a notable auction hosted by Christie's and Hunt Auctions, two historic pieces of baseball memorabilia commanded top dollar, leading a collection that totaled over $6.8 million in sales. The auction's showstoppers were a 1938 Babe Ruth Brooklyn Dodgers uniform and a 1968 Hank Aaron jersey, each with a significant place in baseball history.

The Ruth uniform, a rare artifact from his time with the Dodgers, sold for an impressive $882,000. Equally significant was the Hank Aaron Atlanta Braves jersey, which Aaron wore as he hit his 500th career home run, fetching $567,000.

The event also included the Geddy Lee Collection, named after the Rush lead singer and avid baseball memorabilia collector. A standout piece from this collection was a baseball signed by President Herbert Hoover, which surprisingly sold for $214,200, greatly exceeding its initial $25,000 estimate. Also from Lee's collection, a Mickey Mantle-signed baseball with an inscription sold for $30,240.

Among the more unique items was a photograph from the Gladstone Collection, depicting Civil War soldiers with baseball equipment. This rare historical snapshot achieved a sale price of $113,400, surpassing its $10,000 estimate by a significant margin.

David Hunt, President of Hunt Auctions, highlighted the honor of presenting such extraordinary collections. He emphasized that the auction's success underscores the vibrant market for historic baseball memorabilia, particularly those originating from important private collections.
