A former professional football player from Hawaii is putting his Super Bowl ring up for auction to give back to his community.

The 2005 Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl 40 championship ring, owned by Kaunakakai native and former defensive tackle Kimo von Oelhoffen, is being sold through Heritage Auctions.

Von Oelhoffen, who played 14 seasons in the NFL, was a key member of the Pittsburgh Steelers' defense that helped secure the Super Bowl 40 victory. Known for his strength and versatility, he also had successful stints with the Cincinnati Bengals, New York Jets, and Philadelphia Eagles. Throughout his career, von Oelhoffen was respected for his leadership on and off the field, playing a pivotal role in helping the Steelers win their first Super Bowl in 26 years.

The auction house reports that von Oelhoffen plans to donate all proceeds to Molokai High School to help improve its football facilities.

“Ultimately, our goal is to build a training facility to support not only the high school but also younger kids, fostering a culture of discipline and training from an early age,” von Oelhoffen explained.

The current bid stands at $19,000, with only three days left before the auction concludes.
