EVANSVILLE, IN – A 12-year-old baseball card collector from Evansville made an astonishing discovery earlier this week when he pulled a one-of-a-kind signed Babe Ruth baseball card while opening packs with his grandfather.

Keegan, an avid card collector, was spending President’s Day with his grandfather, Bob Kenning, when they decided to visit The Hobby Den, a local sports memorabilia shop.

“It was President’s Day, we had nothing better to do,” Bob recalled. “Keegan calls me up and says, ‘Hey Pawpaw, why don’t we go to Hobby Den?’”

For Bob, baseball cards were once just a childhood pastime, often ending up in bicycle spokes to create makeshift motor sounds.

“A lot of my cards wound up in my bicycle spokes to make my bike sound better,” he said.

Keegan, however, sees them as valuable collectibles.

“I would say I have close to ten thousand cards,” he shared.

The duo's casual day at the shop took an unexpected turn when they pulled a one-of-one signed Babe Ruth baseball card, an ultra-rare find in the sports memorabilia world.

David Nguyen, owner of The Hobby Den, was stunned by the discovery.

“Babe Ruth signatures just aren’t common in general,” Nguyen said. “Just seeing something like that, that’s what the hobby is all about.”

The moment quickly became a cherished memory for the grandfather and grandson, highlighting their shared love for collecting.

“When we can share this hobby together and have a grandfather-grandson bonding time, that’s priceless right there,” Bob said.

Despite the card's potential high value, Keegan has no plans to part with it.

“I think I’m going to hold on to it, definitely,” he said. “It’s just a once-in-a-lifetime pull, and I probably will never get anything just like it.”

The rare Babe Ruth card is now a prized possession in Keegan’s growing collection, marking a historic moment for both the young collector and his grandfather.
