In an unexpected and bold crossover between sports and toy culture, Barbie is introducing a new Ken doll modeled after NBA legend LeBron James. This release is a collaboration between Mattel and the LeBron James Family Foundation, marking a significant first in the Barbie universe.

LeBron’s new miniature counterpart is the first Ken doll based on a professional athlete and serves as the debut figure in Mattel’s newly launched “Kenbassadors” line—an initiative focused on celebrating individuals who inspire positive change and global impact. The company describes Kenbassadors as cultural icons who are helping shape a better world, and LeBron fits that mold both on and off the court.

A Collector’s Dream with Signature Details

The LeBron James Ken doll drops officially on April 14 at a retail price of $75 and includes a stand and a Certificate of Authenticity. For collectors looking for something a bit more exclusive, a special early release will take place on April 12 at the UNDEFEATED store in Los Angeles. That launch will feature a limited number of dolls signed by LeBron himself.

Standing an inch taller than the average Ken doll to reflect James’ 6-foot-9 frame, the figure is outfitted in a fully customized wardrobe. The outfit includes a “We Are Family” t-shirt—echoing the core messaging of James’ foundation—a custom blue varsity jacket, and Nike Terminator High sneakers.

The varsity jacket is loaded with personal touches: an “LJ” patch on the chest, the number 23, a “We Are Family” emblem, an Ohio patch representing his home state, and “LEBRON” stitched across the back with the phrase “Just a kid from Akron” beneath it.

Accessories with Heart

Beyond the fashion statement, the LeBron Ken comes fully equipped with a lineup of lifestyle accessories: Beats headphones, sunglasses, a hat, watch, crossbody bag, and his trademark “I Promise” wristband, reflecting the commitment behind his I PROMISE School and broader community efforts.

A short video shared on social media by the LeBron James Family Foundation and Uninterrupted shows James reacting to the doll with excitement. “Oh he dope,” he said, clearly enjoying the lifelike mini-me.

Giving Back with Every Doll

The doll’s release is tied to more than just a celebration of LeBron’s influence—it’s also about giving back. Along with proceeds supporting the LeBron James Family Foundation, Mattel has pledged to donate up to 5,000 copies of James’ children’s book I Am More Than to Save the Children for every purchase made through Target (in-store or online) between April 14 and April 19.

Krista Berger, Mattel’s Senior VP of Barbie and Global Head of Dolls, explained the deeper purpose behind the release. “This is more than a doll—it’s a tribute to LeBron’s role as a cultural leader, role model, and advocate for youth.”

With its blend of basketball history, cultural messaging, and high-end collectible appeal, the LeBron James Ken doll is more than just a new addition to the Barbie universe—it’s a statement piece that brings the legacy of one of sports’ most influential figures into a whole new arena.
