The final day of the National Sports Collectors Convention in Cleveland took an unexpected and costly turn for one attendee. A sports card dealer from New Jersey reported that approximately $275,000 in cash was stolen from his vehicle on Sunday, July 28, at the I-X Center.

According to Cleveland Police First District detectives, the theft occurred as the 48-year-old dealer was loading his SUV after the show. The stolen items, which included cash and two iPads, were inside a black briefcase that the victim believed he had secured in the vehicle. However, the briefcase was taken after the dealer had stepped away, thinking the car was locked.

Thanks to an air tag inside the bag, police were able to recover the briefcase on I-X Center property shortly after the theft. Unfortunately, the large sum of cash that had been stored inside was missing.

Authorities are now searching for two suspects who were seen leaving the area in a blue Honda Odyssey van.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the First District Detective Unit at (216) 623-5118 or the Crime Stoppers tip line at (216) 252-7463.
