Break out your hockey sweaters, folks—SP Game Used Hockey is back for its 25th year, still riding high as the king of memorabilia-based hockey cards. While Upper Deck’s attempts to make SP Game Used stick in baseball, football, and basketball fizzled out faster than a rookie on thin ice, hockey fans have embraced this brand for a quarter-century and counting.
This milestone edition isn’t just resting on its past glory, though. The new chase this year revolves around cards featuring relics from the first-ever 4 Nations Face-Off (USA, Canada, Finland, and Sweden), held in February 2025. You know, because international rivalries make pulling these cards way more fun.
Just like last year, each hobby box offers a single nine-card pack, providing collectors a potent mix:
4 hits (autographs, memorabilia, autographed memorabilia, or premium inserts)
3 base cards, Authentic Rookies, or New Grooves inserts
2 parallels of base cards, Authentic Rookies, or New Grooves
The base set is a solid 200 cards deep, stacked with current NHL stars, retired legends, and a bunch of Authentic Rookies ready to steal the spotlight (or your wallet).
Parallel hunters can chase down these options:
Red (not numbered, but still shiny)
Gold /149
Rainbow (serial-numbered to the player’s jersey number—making some way easier to get than others)
Purple /5
Green 1/1 (the unicorns of the hockey card world)
And, of course, plenty of autographed and relic parallels to keep everyone’s binders full and wallets empty.
As you’d expect from a set literally named "SP Game Used," the relics are the stars. Upper Deck has gone wild sourcing game-used gear from regular NHL contests, Stanley Cup playoffs, the NHL Global Series, Stadium Series, Winter Classic, and now the brand-new 4 Nations Face-Off.
Relic sets you’ll want to chase include:
Rookie Sweaters (/299)
Troupe Threads (/199)
Game Day Gear (/100)
Rookie Jumbo Patches (/25)
Supreme Materials (/15) and the super-sized Supreme Patches (/15)—this year also featuring relics from that 4 Nations tournament. Because bigger patches are always better, obviously.
Fan favorites return like Puck Relics and Net Cord cards, showcasing actual pieces of game-used nets from NHL debuts and milestone games.
Draft Day Marks also returns, with manufactured letter patches signed by rookies. Collectors who manage to spell out an entire player's name earn eternal bragging rights (and the right to flex endlessly on social media).
Rookies have also inked the popular Inked Rookie Sweaters (/99) with rare Patch parallels (/25). Veterans aren’t left out either, having Inked Sweaters (tough pulls at 1:100 packs) and their own Patch parallels (/25).
Banner cards also return, slicing up banners from events like Draft Days, Stanley Cup Finals, Winter Classics, and more—plus autographed versions if you’re feeling extra fancy.
New Grooves inserts are back, featuring exciting rookies with these parallel options:
Red /499
Gold /149
Rainbow /99
Purple /5
Green 1/1
And for a fresh twist, the new numbered NHL Masters (/299) insert set debuts, offering Jersey and Patch versions featuring rookies, current superstars, and all-time hockey legends.
