If you’ve been craving a baseball card set that feels more like fine art than cardboard, 2024 Topps Inception Baseball might just be your Monet. With splashes of color, bold autographs, and short prints that make collectors sweat, this year’s Inception drop continues to blur the line between museum showcase and sports memorabilia.
Like previous years, each hobby box keeps things short and sweet — just 7 cards — but packs a punch with one guaranteed autograph or autographed relic. Oh, and those elusive short prints? They’re back, and they’ve multiplied.
Rookies Run the Show (Again)
The base set leans heavily on the fresh faces of MLB, with 71 rookie cards out of 125 total base cards. This year, 25 of those spots at the end of the checklist are reserved for short prints — because why not make collectors panic just a little more?
On top of that, each hobby box drops two parallels from the first 100 base cards. They range from easy-to-find Green to the ultra-rare 1/1 Inception parallel. Expect familiar colors like Magenta (/99), Gold Electricity (/50), and Orange (/10) in the rainbow.
Short prints come roughly one every other box, and if you’re lucky (or cursed with the itch to rip every sealed box), there’s even an Alpha SSP parallel.
Autographs That Actually Look Cool
If base cards are the canvas, the Rookie & Emerging Star autographs are the statement piece. With 83 names signing on-card and a rainbow of parallels from Purple (/199) down to the 1/1 Inception version, there’s plenty of high-end ink to chase.
But Inception doesn’t stop at “just” autographs. No, we’re talking silver signatures, gold ink, and even triple-autographed cards. Some of the most fun new additions include:
Transformation cards (rookie photo vs. now — because glow-ups deserve cardboard recognition)
Charged Particles autographs (they’re wild, they're weird, they look like particle accelerator diagrams)
Immersion autos (think art class meets baseball)
Patch Game Strong
Inception continues to lean into the memorabilia side of collecting with autographed relics, Quad Relics, Jumbo Patches, and other game-used goodness. Highlights include:
First Milestone Cards: Autographs paired with pieces of bases used in key debut moments
Domínguez & De La Cruz Specials: Featuring base slices from their first home run trots
1/1 Relics: Including MLB logo, New Era, 59Fifty hat patches, and sock relics (yes, socks)
And just in case you wanted something that barely fits in a top loader, booklet cards are here — including Team Logo and Laundry Tag editions, plus Dual Autograph Booklets with relics.
