If you’re into high-end hockey cards, the 2024-25 Upper Deck Premier Hockey release is squarely aimed at you. These cards are premium in every sense — on-card autographs, big swatches and rare memorabilia pieces are the norm, not the exception.
Each hobby box contains six cards, and four of them will feature either autographs, memorabilia, or a mix of both.
Of those four, expect at least one autographed patch card plus another autograph-only card.
The base set itself is modest in size — 150 cards total — but it’s packed with depth and variety.
Upper Deck splits the 150 cards into three tiers:
| Tier | Count | Serial Number Range |
|---|---|---|
| Veterans | 90 | /299 |
| Greats | 10 | /99 |
| Rookies | 50 | /399 |
Each of those groups has Gold parallels (Veterans & Greats up to /25; Rookies up to /175) plus one-of-one Platinum versions.
When you crack a box, you’ll also find two base or parallel cards — one drawn from the Veterans/Greats pool and one from the Rookies. Some base cards even have autograph versions, though the odds vary (for example, Veterans ~1:4 packs, Greats ~1:125, Rookies ~1:3). And yes — those autographed base cards also get Gold and Platinum parallel treatments. Some may even carry relics, like swatches or neckline pieces.
This is where Premier really shines.
Acetate Rookie Auto Patch cards continue to be a flagship insert. They’re typically numbered to 249 or 99, and you’ll find Gold versions (/65 or /35) and rare 1/1 Platinums.
There are also Horizontal autographed patch rookie cards, usually /99 or under, with their own Gold (/25 or fewer) and Platinum versions.
On the veteran side, Acetate Veteran Auto Patch cards are limited — none exceed 49 copies.
Other autograph types include:
Premier Focus Auto Patch
Rookie Premier Focus Auto Patch (often /99)
Viewpoints Auto Patch (/99)
2004 Premier Auto Jersey (around /99 or fewer)
First Opus Rookie Auto Jersey (/35)
Grand Opus Auto Jersey (/15)
2004 Premier Rookie Auto Patch (/15)
Premier Penmanship Autos (around 1 per 5 packs)
Old Style Signatures (around 1 per 18 packs)
You’ll see many of these insert sets crossover with relics, meaning the autograph sits on or beside a piece of game-used material.
Premier’s relic content is aggressive — they go big or go home.
Mega Patch cards take large swatches from chest logos, shoulder logos, sleeves, or commemorative patches.
The “Mega” concept spills over into Mega Jersey Duos, Trios, and Quads — these multi-player relic cards are among the most eye-catching pieces in the set.
Premier Dual, Triple, and Quad Jerseys follow in the same multi-player spirit, and many of those get patch parallels too.
For the rookies, Rookie Patch-Taculars and Dual Rookie Patch-Taculars mimic the Mega style, using patchy, expressive elements.
A fresh twist this year: Premier Pieces — this goes beyond jerseys and patches. You’ll find relics pulled from pants, helmets, equipment bags, socks (all /35), and even skates (/15).
Another first: Twineline — these include slivers of net cord from key games in player histories (limited to /25).
Don’t sleep on the smaller inserts either: Premier Attractions Jersey (/99 or fewer), Premier Gear (/49 or fewer), Premier Gear Rookies (/99 or fewer), First Opus Rookie Jersey (/149), and Grand Opus Jersey (/149).
