If you miss the look of classic hockey cards but want the chase of today’s game, 2024-25 Parkhurst Champions Hockey brings both to the table. This year’s release feels like it was pulled from a 1950s gum pack — until you flip the card and realize you could hit an autograph, lenticular short print, or a low-numbered parallel.

It’s a set that pays tribute to the history of the game while making sure modern collectors still have plenty to chase.

A Closer Look at the Base Set

Parkhurst Champions leads with a 300-card base set. But it’s not one flat checklist. The set is divided into sections:

  • Cards 1 to 200 make up the core base group

  • The final 100 cards are short prints, broken into:

    • 40 Stars (1 in 9 packs)

    • 40 Rookies (1 in 9 packs)

    • 20 Greats (1 in 17 packs)

It’s a layered approach that keeps the set builder busy while giving pack rippers something extra to hunt.

Parallels to Chase

Each hobby box promises six total parallels, and they come in a mix of familiar and creative variations. Some are unnumbered, while others go down to just ten copies:

  • Silver

  • Rainbow Foilboard

  • Shell Pink Border /99

  • Baby Blue Border /25

  • Black Border /10

These parallel versions bring color to the retro-themed design, and the Black Border cards in particular have a strong visual throwback vibe.

Hits: Autos, Patches, or Lenticular Surprises

Every hobby box includes one main hit, and it could come in the form of:

  • An autograph

  • A memorabilia card

  • A lenticular insert

Most of the hits are tied to the base design, featuring autographed base variations or jersey and patch parallels. Some cards even combine signatures with swatches.

Lenticular cards replace hits in some boxes and are far from common. The two styles available are:

  • In Full Color (1 in 216 packs)

  • Retro-Active (1 in 270 packs)

These motion-style cards are tough pulls and bring a very different feel to the checklist.

Insert Lineup

Parkhurst includes a selection of creative insert themes, each with its own print odds. Some are based on player performance, while others are pure fun. Here’s what’s in the mix:

  • Crease Lightning – 1 in 12 packs

  • Saturday Night Standouts – 1 in 14 packs

  • Shake, Rattle and Roll – 1 in 17 packs

  • You Wouldn’t Believe – 1 in 23 packs

  • Atom Squad – 1 in 34 packs

Each of these adds flavor to the break and gives collectors new designs and player combinations to track down.

Cut Signatures: Parkhurst Cuts

A real curveball in this year’s product is the Parkhurst Cuts program — true one-of-ones featuring cut signatures from classic players and themes. These are divided into three groups:

  • Championship Salute: 1953-54 Red Wings

  • Class of 1953-54

  • Stars of the ’50s

These cards are ultra-limited and feel like they were made for display rather than sets.

Retro Bonus Packs

Every hobby box includes a five-card Retro bonus pack, built around the 1953-54 Parkhurst Retros theme. These packs usually contain:

  • Four Retro base cards

  • One Jumbo Gum Back parallel

But that’s not all — some bonus packs will also contain other limited versions, such as:

  • Rainbow Foilboard /53

  • Blank Back /15

  • Black Rainbow Foilboard 1/1

  • Rare autographed Retro cards

It’s a neat add-on that expands the retro theme and gives you five extra cards to look forward to in every box.
